Is Chivalry Dead?

Chivalry is defined by Webster’s dictionary as “an honorable and polite way of behaving especially toward women”. In the Middle Ages knights were expected to follow a certain system of values and be chivalrous. Today many women would argue that chivalry is dead. In my experience I usually encounter men that ask me out and open doors. They know the importance of the woman walking on the inside when on the sidewalk. Unfortunately this is not always the case. I have girlfriends who encounter the opposite. There are men who will text you every day for weeks, without the mention of actually going out. You will rarely receive a phone call from these men. However they will invite you over or ask you to come downstairs to “hang out”.

I’ve had friends who have gone on dates where the guy actually asks what she’s ordering and checks the menu to see the price!! How uncomfortable for both parties! Now I know that most guys would think maybe the restaurant was expensive and the guy is watching his pockets, but c’mon fellas. This was not a 5 star restaurant and she ordered a salmon salad. But that’s besides the point lol. Getting back to my question what happened to Chivalry? When did it become acceptable to meet a nice girl who has it together and think that you don’t have to do anything to attract her to you? Why would any man think that a woman would be okay with coming over to your apartment to chill or hang for a first date? The minute a guy mentions apartment, I would immediately get offended.

I was raised to believe that I am worth more than that. A few of my male friends believe that it’s a new age and women should take the lead. They believe that women today don’t deserve that treatment. They feel that they have just as much to bring to the table and they shouldn’t have to go out of their way to be chivalrous. I miss the days of guys being sweet and putting in that extra effort to show that they are interested. Actions speak louder than words in my book. You can text me till your fingers hurt filling my head with contradicting statements about what you would like to do to me and how we would be good together, but nothing will win me over like a good old fashioned date. Maybe we are living in a new age. Maybe my beliefs are outdated. Or maybe somewhere along the line women lost the respect of men and this is our punishment. What do you guys think?

  1. Unfortunately I find men no longer are interested in courting. They believe in easy results n quickness.Dont wanna be friends b4 lovers. Too many “Bad bitches “n “Thots” they’re ruling. In today’s society its instant gratification. .they want it now not later and women fall in the trap of if I dont someone else will..vicious cycle..we need to pray.

  2. Chivalry died when females decided they wore the pants in the relationship. You can’t think you are equal with a man or even above them and then expect them to treat you as a dainty flower. If women let men think they in charge even if they not you will see men being more chivalrous in my opinion

    • I have to give you that point. Unfortunately too many of us women have become hard and we forgot how to let men lead. We let bitterness and weak men turn us into something that we are not cut out to be. I struggle with that but I definitely know how to let a man be a man if he steps up to the plate.
